Exclusive Interview with Graham Nash

By: 4waysite.com - Dolf van Stijgeren, web-site founder and manager.
Date: December,
2001.

Dolf and Graham, back stage, United Center, Chicago.

It was a great pleasure to pose a few questions - on behalf of the CSN mail list "the Lee-shore" - to Graham Nash.

Dolf van Stijgeren:
Q1 A thread on the CSN mail list the Lee-shore, is "What's In My CD Player." What is in yours...?
GN: Ravi Shankar, Adgio for strings by Samuel Barber, Peter Gabriel's "Passion," Elvis Golden Records.
Q2 Is the internet good or bad for CSN?
GN: The internet is good for humanity period... smaller world... more contact.
Q3 Why do you sing in "Teach Your Children" (the one they) "pick's" with a "s"?
GN: It is written as "pick's" meaning the one they pick "is" the one....

Rose:
Dear Graham, I am a 16-years-old fan and am writing a paper about the sixties in the US covering the influence society had on movies and music, and vice versa.
Q1 What inspired you most in the 60's, from a political point of view, to write a (which?) song...?
GN: Unfair oppression ("Chicago").
Q2 What have you achieved when it comes to political awareness?
GN: I don't want to achieve anything but to "get it out".
Q3 What do you think of Madonna?
GN: I don't think of Madonna but she is a talented and powerful woman.

Hugh Lalande:
I get a kick when ever I listen to the CD "Another Stoney Evening", and on here you had given a very humorous explanation behind your border experience when coming back from a show here beforehand. Thus you went straight home to California and wrote "Immigration Man".
Q Now that so many years have passed by, do you still bring a lot of levity from different situations that you experience in today's life, and write them into your lyrics with the band? Or is it mainly political and human interest that motivates you these days?
GN: I have to live, laugh, experience and write.

Chris Webb:
Q1 When will the CSN Demo album see the light of day?
GN Whenever the time is right for us. The work has already been done, except the artwork.
Q2 Will there be a live album from the current tour?
GN I believe so.
Q3 Read that a CN recording of the 74 San Francisco auditorium show cd will be released, any news please.
GN Ask Stephen Barncard at crosbystillsnash.com

Ted Krever:
Thanks for your kindness and generosity over the years. We met briefly at the Nash Editions showing in Brooklyn last fall--you were very gracious. I can't help thinking about all the great stories that we've heard about you guys over the years, and about the fact that, the few times I've ever been questioned for articles in the media, they always misquote or misspell your sname--and I say that as a member of the media!
Q Are there any stories that we take for granted about you guys that are plain wrong and you'd like to refute, or clarify in some way?
GN: Yes, the one that says I'm Crosby.

Marion:
Your songs have pulled me through many a troubled time .
Q Why do Stephen and Croz look at each other and smile when you get to the suitcase part of "Song Before I Go?"
GN I don't know. I never noticed that because I'm so into the song when I perform it. I'll ask them if they know.

Graham Baker:
Q1 Is the new album Songs For Survivors due 'early 2002'?
GN: The 5.1 mix (surround) will be out in the Spring followed by the stereo, when I can find a good label.
Q2 Are you selling through the internet through one of your own sites and if yes, which?
GN I will sell it through grahamnash.com and make a little more profit on those sales.

Brad Hicks:
Graham/Dolf, thank you for the opportunity and best wishes to you both for a wonderful remainder of 2001 and upcoming holiday seasons... Graham, thank you for the many hours of musical enjoyment... With the new album on the way, I look forward to more.
Q [This one] concerns the new album (showing my age with "album").... For a number of years I have heard you perform wonderful songs such as "The Other Side of Town" and "Liar's Nightmare". Are there any chances of these wonderful songs appearing on the new album?
GN  Liar's nightmare will be on Songs for Survivors and I did record OSOT but didn't finish it.

Best to all, Graham Nash.
