Cameras will roll for DVD

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young have filmed every recent tour with multiple cameras and multi-track recording, but the group is bringing in extra cameras for the band's three nights at Red Rocks.
Graham Nash, who has always served as the band's archivist, says he's excited about the DVD that will probably come out of this week's run at the Amphitheater.

He says fans "will definitely see something by Christmas."

CSNY had planned to do DVDs on previous tours, but they never quite got done.

"Too many other projects by four very busy people," Nash explains.

The vaults are filled with more rarities, including a BBC film of the band's 1974 Wembley Stadium concert that recently leaked on DVD.

"We have a tremendous amount of unreleased stuff. Unfortunately, it's a band that craves the future, that craves the song it is singing right now.

"It's looking forward to the next show. We very rarely look backward. And that's what you've got to do to go into those projects," Nash says.

The early CSN albums were an exception.

Nash wanted to upgrade the sound, and he did find some good outtakes. The first batch was released this year, with more to come.

"A lot of people over the years have told me they've heard bootlegs of this song or that song, . . . stuff like that," he said.

"I went back and listened to a lot of stuff, and indeed there were things that were really charming."

Why does he take this task upon himself?

"It's got my name on it, hasn't it? That's the reason."
