PRISONER OF WOODSTOCK - by DALLAS TAYLOR
Thunder's Mouth Press (US Import), 1995
One is struck by the similarities between David Crosby and ex-CSNY
drummer Dallas Taylor. Both are survivors of years of serious drug abuse; both have had
liver transplants and both wrote autobiographies. Taylor writes of his years with CSNY (of
whom it must be said hardly come out smelling of roses), Manassas and his narcotic
excesses. The book flits somewhat dreamlike between operating theatre, Woodstock and Detox
Centre. The book finishes with the CSNY reunion for Dallas's Benefit Concert at Santa
Monica in 1990. The book, apparently, didn't go down well with his former
compadres, as
his CSNY royalties ceased around about the time of the book's publication and he
subsequently sued them for back royalties in 1996.
