"ROCK DINOSAURS ARE
WAKING UP"
CSNY in Expressen, one of
Sweden's biggest newspapers.
October 1999
San Fransisco. It's
been 25 years since they last stood on stage together and ten years since their last
record.
-But it was another thing
then, when David was so far away into the drugs, says Neil Young.
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young are back.
They are all in a great mood when Expressen meet them in a hotelroom in San Fransisco, and
the interest in their upcoming album and tour is great. Mainly thanks to Neil Young, off
course.
-Neil phoned me and said we had some business to deal with, says Stephen Stills.
-I asked what it was and when we should do it. "In six hours. I'm in the car on
my way to you", answered Neil. That was the start of what the group refuses to call a
reunion.
-We haven't reunited, because we've never split up. That's why we have given this
group this name, so everyone can make records even without the others. We've tried
to explain, but nobody listens, says David Crosby.
-Eehhh, What did you say, asks Graham Nash.
40 gigs.
The new album Looking Forward will be out in a few days, and next week they will release
the dates for their 40 dates North American tour starting January.
*Europe?
-We want to play in Europe next summer. We've had good offers from Europe, Japan, South
America and Indonesia. But we don't want to decide yet. We will do this as good as
possible and then we will see. These days we are in the position where no one can tell us
what to do, says Neil Young.
*You haven't toured together since 1974. Are you better today?
-I guess we have picked something up these last 25 years, says Young.
-It's just been two years since I learned to play guitar, says Stephen Stills, laughing.
*What's the difference to when you recorded American Dream ten years ago?
-No idea. Does anyone remember that recording, asks Neil Young.
-The big difference is that David is concsious now, that he's free from the drugs, says
Graham Nash, who himself sits in a wheelchair with a broken leg after a boat accident in
Hawaii.
-I am thankful that these friends have supported me during a dark period of my life. It
feels wonderful to be back, says Crosby himself.
