Yesterday evening I was called by a friend of mine who told me she
had heard me on the Dutch national radio (Radio 1) the day before,
talking about a book on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (knowing me,
she immediately realised which "Young" was referred to).
|
This interview had taken place at the release party held in the
rock café "Stairway to Heaven" in Utrecht, for the release
of the first two (of three) books on Crosby, Stills, Nash and
sometimes Young, by the Dutch/Belgian/Italian Shorewriters'
conglomerate. I had the honour of having been invited (like Dolf and
some others) for the press conference in the afternoon as well.

Verbeke, Dolf van Stijgeren and Jeroen Mol.

The café is owned by Dutch singer/songwriter/DJ/politician Henk
Westbroek and it is a real cool place. An abundance of signed guitars
and golden/platinum records on the walls and...
|
...a great wall painting behind the stage: a "heavenly"
scene in which several deceased rock stars are painted in a cloud/angels
surroundings (Jimi, Janis, Morrison, Kurt, Lennon, Zappa, Freddie,
Brian Jones and one or two more).

In the afternoon the two authors Lucien and Herman answered
questions from the audience and the press and they were interviewed by
several journalists. Afterwards, the book was presented officially and
the lucky few of us present got the copy they ordered over a year ago
already.

I must say I'm extremely impressed by these two books, Together
holding some 600 pages on our heroes. An incredible amount of text,
and a lot of pictures I've never seen before. This might in fact be
one of the definitive works on this three/foursome. The books
published last Monday are in Dutch, but the English version of the
full set will see the light of day in a matter of a few months, so if
you haven't ordered the book yet, you might be sorry (go to www.gopher.nl
for details).

After drinks, a lot of nice chatting and dinner a lot more people
arrived to pick up their books and to talk to each other. Amongst them
the Dutch couple Wil and Ria, better known as Southern Cross, who in
my humble opinion are amongst the most proficient performers of Neil
and CSNY within our country. Unfortunately I had to leave before their
gig started (I had to travel over 90 minutes home) but I've heard them
often enough to confidently state so.
|
All in all, a great afternoon and evening celebrating the finalization of 10
years of work by Lucien, Herman, Francesco and Stefano. We should all
congratulate them with their accomplishment: the book is very impressive (and
heavy) indeed. Those who haven't seen the book yet but have ordered it: you'll
be surprised. Those who haven't ordered it yet, you're missing out on
something!
Cheers all,
Joost, I am a child.
