October
12 : Neil Young's Greendale Book Delayed
The release of Neil Young's
Greendale book has been delayed due to problems with eco-friendly soya ink.
Printing of the book - which accompanies his political album and film of the same name - has been pushed back to November because environmental activist Young insisted on using organic soya ink in the production process.
Neil Young's Greatest Hits, a collection of sixteen of the legendary
singer-songwriter's most memorable tracks, chronicling his extraordinary
three-decade career on Reprise Records, has been set for release by the label on November 16th. This is the first time Young has released a
single-disc collection of his most popular music.
October
8 : Springfield's
Bruce Palmer dies
Buffalo Springfield bassist
Bruce Palmer died Monday of an apparent heart attack; he was fifty-eight.
Born in Canada in 1946, Palmer was an early collaborator with Neil Young. Although Buce Palmer did not sing or write
any material during his time in the band, he was a vital member, both on-stage
and (at least in the beginning) in the studio, for providing much of the "rock"
muscle in the band's folk-rock with his powerful, creative basslines.
He was also its most mysterious member, playing with his back to the audience
and often even posing in photographs with his face away or hidden from the
camera.
Furay: "Bruce was the mysterious one in the group. You may not have always known what he was thinking as he just looked at you and smiled, but when he plugged the bass in, there was no mistaking his life was truly about the music".

3DVD set
According to www.musictap.net
a 3DVD set will be available on October 26. The CSN issue has two live sets,
"Acoustic" (from a 1991 show) and "Daylight Again" (from their 1983 tour)
- both recently released on DVD - combined with "Long Time Comin'", a documentary of their 30+ years together as a recording and touring
unit (previously released on video). Both sets will have 5.1 mixes.
Not exactly a great deal for those of us who already bought the first
two DVD's...
September
16 : Crosby&
Nash on the "Tonight Show"
James
Raymond's
"Lay Me Down" is scheduled to be performed by Crosby &
Nash on the "Tonight Show" tomorrow night. The CSN band (with
James Raymond) will be along.

September
6 : Bad
news on the Live Aid DVD
The tracklist for the forthcoming Live Aid DVD has been released and is
something of a disappointment for CSNY fans.
None of the CSNY reunion tracks are featured and only "Teach Your Children"
for the earlier CSN set is included. Neil is represented on 2 tracks "The
Needle and the Damage Done" and what is called "God's Perfect Plan" (better known as "Nothing is
Perfect").
Live Aid wasn't CSNY's best performance but in a 4 DVD set, you wish there had been room for something.
September
1 : Crosby's

26 : Crosby and Nash TV Spot Banned
From Undercover.com:
David Crosby and Graham Nash have run afoul of US television networks who are refusing to run spots to promote their tour because they are too political.
Television commercials for the tour feature a mock run for a joint presidency. In July, the pair announced they would jointly run for President of the United States later this year in an obvious tongue in cheek campaign. Neither qualify for the job because Crosby is a convicted felon and Nash is British.
Crosby and Nash promised to alternative the job of Commander in Chief by flipping a coin every Monday.
TNT and Viacom didn't see the joke. Both networks have banned the commercials claiming they are "too political".

: CSNY
future plans...
We, fans of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, are usually pretty happy to
see a performance from any one of the quartet. But the union of all four
members tends to get us fans pretty excited and it seems there might be
good news.
Stephen Stills did a quick interview with Ron Reagan on MSNBC after the convention
and said his solo album will be coming out the beginning of next year.
But he also said something about the CSNY plans:
"Well, yes. CSNY will do something, too, real soon. And if we could, we would have been here. We are hoping we can
do something in October for a little surprise at the end."
Graham Nash recently said: "We're thinking about January
sometime. So I spoke to Neil and yeah, why not? We seem to make good
music together still, and why not?".
Whenever it may be, Neil Young usually is the deciding factor in whether
the quartet will reunite; that seems to bode well for the future!

2 : David
Crosby fined after pleading guilty
David Crosby, who faced up to
seven years in prison if he had been convicted on the gun charge after a
trial, was fined $5,000 on July 2.
NEW YORK (Reuters): Rock musician David Crosby was fined $5,000 on Friday after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon following his arrest in New York in March when a gun, knife and marijuana were found in his luggage.
In exchange for his plea in which one count of unlawful possession of marijuana was dismissed, Crosby, 62, was given a conditional discharge. As long as he pays the fine and does not get re-arrested for a year, the charges will be discharged.
Crosby, a Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famer and founding member of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash, will be formally sentenced on Sept. 15 in New York State Supreme Court.
Assistant District Attorney Mark Dahl told State Supreme Court Judge Michael Ambrecht that prosecutors were recommending the sentence "based on the unique circumstances" surrounding Crosby's gun charge.
Although illegal in New York, the gun was obtained legally in California.
"I have in my possession a certified letter from the State of California showing that defendant legally purchased and registered the firearm in question in California.
"Secondly ... the firearm was found not on his person or in public but instead ... found secured in a bag inside Crosby's Times Square hotel room," Dahl said.
Crosby was arrested on March 6 at 1 a.m. after a maid found a loaded .45-caliber handgun, a knife and a small amount of marijuana that he left behind after checking out of the hotel.
After police were called, Crosby, who was performing that night with his band CPR, at a Wayne New Jersey college, discovered he was missing a piece of his luggage. He telephoned the hotel to say he would return to pick it up and was met by New York police who arrested him.

Jeff
Pevar comments on Ray Charles death
Ray Charles, the Grammy-winning crooner who blended gospel and blues in such crowd-pleasers as "What'd I Say" and ballads like "Georgia on My Mind," died Thursday, a spokesman said. He was 73.
As a performer and recording artist in the late 1950s and early 1960s, Ray Charles pioneered a new style of music
that became known as "soul".
"Our" own Jeff Pevar (CPR) teamed with him.
Jeff
Pevar: "[I] remember some wonderful times. It was an amazing experience in my
life. I am obviously very distraught at the news... been thinking about Ray all day
since I heard it (from Crosby at rehearsal) and it feels good to honor such
an amazing man, who taught us all so much. Among other things I believe
that Ray Charles helped to further signify the importance of Black music
to white culture, and all cultures...... and so much more....
Probably the most famous musician I'll ever have had the honor to work
with. I mean,
just about everyone in the world knows who Ray Charles is...... it was always a
treat, even when the conditions were less than favorable.
I knew, I was supposed to be there to learn some important lessons...heh
heh...even when he
turned around and yelled "TURN DOWN THAT G*D-DAMNNED GUITAR!!!"....heh
heh....
May our musical father and frontiersman rest in peace".

one observer describes as a 'hysteria' of mass layoffs and bankruptcy in
2004.
The documentary focuses on the aspirations and experiences of four
artists: veteran musician David Crosby, songwriter/producer Mark Hudson
whose daughter, Sarah, is about to release her first single and album
and Velvet Revolver."

New
Crosby & Nash CD - update
A few words from no one less than Jeff Pevar (CPR) who took a look in
the C&N kitchen: "I have heard a number of the mixes on the
new Crosby/Nash record and I am totally blown away. You guys are not
going to believe how beautiful this record is. I am also so thrilled
that the boyz invited James Taylor to sing harmony on a song I wrote w/
Graham called, 'Jesus Of Rio'.
I am very excited for all involved on this record. I am particularly
proud of James Raymond's contributions to this record. And of course,
C&N are the best. I just can't imagine how they keep getting better,
but they do. What an inspiration.... and what a band!! Dean Parks work
is astounding. The Kunkel father and son team worked so well together.
And Leland Sklar? The best there is. You'll hear it all later this year
for yourself....what a gem!"
Jeff is going to join CSN during their Summer Tour "To support
however it works best for all involved".
Jeff is a very humble guy...

March 18 : Neil Young tour powered by vegetable oil
It would be reasonable to expect that the rock 'n' roll
veteran has more pressing matters on his mind -- he's just launched a
month-long concert tour to complement the theatrical release of
"Greendale", his first film in 22 years. But for anyone
familiar with the project's storyline, which tackles such weighty
subjects as religious warfare, corporate duplicity, the erosion of
privacy and the destruction of natural resources, it will come as no
surprise that its creator is eager to discuss not merely the tour itself

7 : Crosby
songbook AND box set
David Crosby: "There is going to be a new one
[songbook, 4 WaySite]. It's looking as if it will be around 100 of my best songs from my whole time.
Unfortunately it will not be pretty and cool and have lots of color pictures in it but I am finding out that I am
lucky to get one with so many songs in it out at all. They mostly only do
ones that are companion pieces to CDs and they find lifes work books much
harder to market; doesn't make sense to me but there you go.
We are hoping for this summer along with the Crosby box set".
