Crosby and Stills could easily have launched themselves as solo artists, just as Young had done after the demise of Buffalo Springfield. Astonishingly, Crosby had already written most of the songs which would be scattered across the various CSN&Y, C&N and solo ventures covering the next five years. - Martin Luther King, Jr. Assassinated on April 4, a lone assassin killed Dr. Martin Luther King, America's leading civil rights activist. Dr. King had been on the forefront of the non-violent struggle to obtain civil rights for Blacks. James Earl Ray was later convicted of the assassination.
